Giving the Gift of Time
During the holiday season, gift giving is a nice way to show those that have helped you over the past year how thankful you are for them. Giving a gift shows your loved ones how much they mean to you and that you want to do something special for them. Giving in general is a wonderful thing to do and is more rewarding and fulfilling than receiving. It is the power of giving, whether it be an object, an experience, or your time that lifts humanity and elevates the joy of the holiday season.
However, during the month of December, this increase in holiday spirit can leave a decrease of money in your wallet. In an effort to preserve whatever savings you might have left, yet still show your friends and family that you care about them, there is only one thing left to do. It’s DIY time.
I have decided that for my friends this year I would make them homemade lavender, vanilla sugar scrub. Easy to do, organic in its nature, and with the power to create smooth skin and a relaxing experience, I decided that this scrub was the perfect gift for my friends (who after a week of finals need some time to de-stress). Aside from this gift being cost effective, I found that it gave me the chance to be creative and spend time on those who have given me so much support throughout the past semester at school. Follow the directions below to make this scrub for the loves in your life:
(Makes one jar)
-1 cup white sugar
-1/4 cup olive oil
-1 tsp. vanilla extract
-5 drops of lavender essential oil
-Measuring spoons and cups
-one small jar
-decorating supplies (optional)
- Mix all above ingredients into a bowl
- Make sure the scrub mixture is smooth and that it smells good!
- Pack the scrub into a jar and flatten the top
- Screw on the top, add a note, and boom (your done!)
